Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, minced garlic, minced ginger, five-spice powder, sesame oil, and black pepper to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight for better flavor.
  3. Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade and let any excess drip off. Discard the leftover marinade.
  5. Place the chicken thighs on the grill and cook for about 6-7 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F) and the chicken is nicely charred.
  6. Remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve with steamed rice or vegetables.
