Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey or maple syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Drain the tofu and press it for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the tofu into bite-sized cubes and toss them in cornstarch until evenly coated.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and cook for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden and crispy on all sides.
  5. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside on a paper towel-lined plate.
  6. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  7. Stir in the red chili flakes, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and honey or maple syrup, cooking for another minute.
  8. Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and toss it in the sauce until well coated.
  9. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
