Ingredients

  • Soft tofu - 300 grams
  • Ground pork (or beef) - 100 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Fermented black beans - 1 tablespoon, rinsed and mashed
  • Doubanjiang (spicy bean paste) - 1 tablespoon
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 teaspoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 150 ml
  • Chili oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the soft tofu for 10 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a pan over medium heat, add the chili oil and ground pork (or beef). Cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add minced garlic, ginger, and green onions (reserve some green onion for garnish) to the pan and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Stir in the mashed fermented black beans and doubanjiang, cooking for another 2 minutes.
  5. Add gluten-free soy sauce, rice vinegar, and water to the pan. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
  6. Gently add the tofu cubes to the sauce, being careful not to break them. Simmer for 5 minutes to heat the tofu through.
  7. Mix cornstarch with a small amount of water to create a slurry, then add it to the pan to thicken the sauce. Stir gently until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Drizzle with sesame oil before serving.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with reserved green onions.
