Ingredients

  • Ground pork - 300 grams
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onion - 2, finely chopped
  • Coconut aminos - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Lettuce leaves - 6 large (e.g., romaine or butter lettuce)
  • Cucumber - 1, sliced
  • Carrot - 1, julienned
  • Fresh cilantro - a handful, chopped

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, minced garlic, grated ginger, chopped green onion, coconut aminos, sesame oil, and chili flakes (if using).
  2. Mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined, then form the mixture into 4 equal-sized patties.
  3. Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and add a splash of oil if desired. Cook the patties for about 5-6 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and golden brown.
  4. While the patties are cooking, prepare the lettuce leaves by washing and patting them dry.
  5. Once the patties are done, assemble the Gao Fen by placing a patty in the center of a lettuce leaf, then top with sliced cucumber, julienned carrot, and chopped cilantro.
  6. Wrap the lettuce around the filling to create a burger, and serve immediately.
