Ingredients

  • Fresh squid - 400 grams
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Clean the squid by removing the head, innards, and skin. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  2. In a bowl, combine minced garlic, minced ginger, gluten-free soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sesame oil, black pepper, and red chili flakes to create the marinade.
  3. Place the cleaned squid into the marinade and ensure it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  4. Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
  5. Once hot, thread the marinated squid onto skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning).
  6. Grill the squid for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have nice grill marks.
  7. Remove the squid from the grill and let rest for a minute before serving.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
