Ingredients
- Fresh squid - 400 grams
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (for garnish)
Steps
- Clean the squid by removing the head, innards, and skin. Rinse under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl, combine minced garlic, minced ginger, gluten-free soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, sesame oil, black pepper, and red chili flakes to create the marinade.
- Place the cleaned squid into the marinade and ensure it is well-coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
- Preheat the grill or a grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Once hot, thread the marinated squid onto skewers (if using wooden skewers, soak them in water for 30 minutes beforehand to prevent burning).
- Grill the squid for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until they are cooked through and have nice grill marks.
- Remove the squid from the grill and let rest for a minute before serving.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
