- Pork belly - 500 grams
- Soy sauce (gluten-free) - 4 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce (gluten-free) - 2 tablespoons
- Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic (minced) - 3 cloves
- Ginger (grated) - 1 tablespoon
- Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Green onions (for garnish) - 2 stalks
Steps
- Prepare the marinade by mixing soy sauce, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, and black pepper in a bowl.
- Cut the pork belly into 1-inch thick slices and place them in a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish.
- Pour the marinade over the pork belly, ensuring all pieces are well-coated. Seal the bag (or cover the dish) and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, ideally overnight for maximum flavor.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 200°C (400°F). If using an oven, line a baking sheet with foil for easier cleanup.
- Remove the pork belly from the marinade and let any excess marinade drip off. Reserve the marinade for basting.
- If grilling, place the pork belly slices on the grill and cook for about 20-25 minutes, flipping occasionally and basting with the reserved marinade.
- If roasting, place the pork belly slices on the prepared baking sheet and roast for 30-35 minutes, basting with the reserved marinade halfway through, until the edges are crispy and caramelized.
- Once cooked, remove from heat and let rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Garnish with chopped green onions and serve hot.
