Ingredients

  • Taro root - 300 grams
  • Coconut oil - 250 ml (for frying)
  • Sea salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Paprika - 1/2 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Peel the taro root and slice it thinly (about 1-2 mm thick) using a mandoline slicer or a sharp knife.
  2. Soak the sliced taro in cold water for 10 minutes to remove excess starch, then drain and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. In a deep skillet or pot, heat the coconut oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  4. Carefully add the dried taro slices to the hot oil in batches, ensuring not to overcrowd the pan.
  5. Fry the taro slices for about 3-4 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy, stirring occasionally.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried taro chips and transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  7. While still hot, season the chips with sea salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika, tossing to coat evenly.
  8. Allow them to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy your homemade fried taro chips!
