Ingredients
- Whole milk - 500 ml
- Cornstarch - 50 g
- Sugar - 30 g
- Vanilla extract - 1 tsp
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Powdered sugar - for dusting
Steps
- In a saucepan, combine the whole milk, sugar, and vanilla extract. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves, but do not let it boil.
- In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with a small amount of cold milk to create a slurry. Gradually add this mixture to the warm milk while stirring continuously.
- Continue to cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens to a pudding-like consistency, about 5-7 minutes.
- Once thickened, pour the mixture into a greased rectangular dish and spread it evenly. Allow it to cool at room temperature for about 10 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours until fully set.
- Once set, cut the milk mixture into squares or rectangles.
- In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Carefully place the milk squares into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the fried milk from the oil and drain on paper towels. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
