Ingredients
- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Five spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 3 tablespoons (for frying)
- Burger buns - 2
- Cucumber - 1 small, sliced
- Carrot - 1 small, shredded
- Lettuce - 2 leaves
- Chili sauce - 1 tablespoon (optional)
Steps
- Press the tofu between paper towels to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes.
- Once pressed, cut the tofu into thick slices or patties.
- In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, five spice powder, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create a marinade.
- Marinate the tofu slices in the mixture for at least 10 minutes.
- After marinating, remove the tofu from the marinade and coat each piece with cornstarch evenly.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat, then add the cornstarch-coated tofu slices.
- Fry the tofu for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
- While the tofu is frying, prepare the burger buns and toppings: slice the cucumber, shred the carrot, and wash the lettuce.
- Once the tofu is done, assemble the burgers by placing a tofu patty on each bun, followed by lettuce, cucumber, carrot, and chili sauce if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your Five Spice Tofu Burger!
