Ingredients
- Duck breast - 2 pieces (about 300g total)
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- Score the skin of the duck breasts in a crosshatch pattern without cutting into the meat.
- In a bowl, mix together the five-spice powder, soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, rice vinegar, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
- Place the duck breasts in a resealable plastic bag or shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Seal or cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, preferably 2 hours.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Place the duck breasts skin-side down in the skillet and sear for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is crispy and golden brown.
- Flip the duck breasts and sear the other side for an additional 3-4 minutes.
- Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and roast for about 10-15 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 65°C (150°F) for medium-rare.
- Remove from the oven and let the duck rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Serve the duck slices garnished with chopped green onions and drizzle with remaining marinade if desired.
