Ingredients

  • Duck breast - 300 grams
  • Five spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce (low sodium) - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Coconut aminos - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the five spice powder, soy sauce, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, coconut aminos, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  3. Score the skin of the duck breast in a crisscross pattern, being careful not to cut into the meat.
  4. Rub the marinade all over the duck breasts, ensuring it gets into the scored skin. Let it marinate for at least 15 minutes.
  5. Place the duck breasts skin-side down in a cold skillet over medium heat. Cook for about 6-8 minutes to render the fat until the skin is crispy.
  6. Flip the duck breasts and transfer the skillet to the preheated oven. Roast for an additional 8-10 minutes for medium-rare, or until the desired doneness is reached.
  7. Remove from the oven and let the duck rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve the sliced duck garnished with chopped green onions.
