Ingredients
- all-purpose flour - 250 grams
- active dry yeast - 5 grams
- sugar - 10 grams
- warm water - 150 ml
- salt - 5 grams
- vegetable oil - 15 ml
- chicken breast - 200 grams, finely chopped
- five-spice powder - 5 grams
- soy sauce - 15 ml
- ginger, grated - 5 grams
- garlic, minced - 5 grams
- green onions, chopped - 2 tablespoons
- sesame oil - 5 ml
Steps
- In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and add the yeast mixture and vegetable oil. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In the meantime, prepare the filling by mixing the chopped chicken, five-spice powder, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, green onions, and sesame oil in a bowl. Set aside.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a disk.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of the chicken filling in the center of each disk. Carefully fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal, forming a bun.
- Place the buns seam side down on a parchment-lined baking tray. Cover with a cloth and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
