Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (such as cod or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Ginger, grated - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Green onions, sliced - 2 stalks
  • Red chili pepper, sliced (optional) - 1
  • Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 60 ml
  • Cornstarch - 1 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, brown sugar, rice vinegar, and water to create the marinade.
  2. Place the fish fillets in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them, ensuring the fish is well coated. Let it marinate for about 10 minutes.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Remove fish from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
  4. Add the fish to the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. Remove the fish and set aside on a plate.
  5. In the same pan, add the reserved marinade and bring to a simmer. Mix cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry, then add to the marinade to thicken it, stirring constantly.
  6. Once the sauce has thickened, return the fish to the pan and coat it with the sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  7. Serve the fish hot, garnished with sliced green onions and red chili pepper if desired.
