  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Sesame paste - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 teaspoon
  • Chili oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Cucumber - 50 grams, julienned
  • Carrot - 50 grams, julienned
  • Fresh cilantro - a handful, for garnish
  • Salt - to taste
  • Pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a pan over medium heat, add the minced garlic and grated ginger, sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Add the ground chicken to the pan, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix the sesame paste, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and chili oil to create a sauce.
  4. Once the chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over the chicken, add half of the chopped green onions, and mix well to combine. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
  5. While the chicken mixture is cooking, steam the whole wheat bao buns according to package instructions, usually about 10 minutes.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a generous spoonful of the chicken mixture onto each bun, and top with julienned cucumber, carrot, and remaining green onions.
  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
