Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 4 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 100 milliliters (for frying)
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves (minced)
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon (grated)
  • Green onions - 2 stalks (sliced for garnish)
  • Sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, coat the tofu cubes evenly with cornstarch.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Fry the tofu cubes in batches until they are golden and crispy on all sides, about 6-8 minutes per batch. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the sauce.
  6. In the same pan, lower the heat and pour in the sauce mixture, stirring for about 2 minutes until heated through.
  7. Add the crispy tofu to the pan, gently tossing to coat the tofu in the sauce.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds.
