Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • Vegetable oil - 100 ml

  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into bite-sized cubes.
  2. In a bowl, coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch, ensuring they are evenly covered.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  4. Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  5. In the same pan, discard excess oil, leaving about 1 tablespoon. Add minced garlic, minced ginger, and red chili flakes. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Add soy sauce, rice vinegar, and sugar to the pan, stirring well to combine.
  7. Return the crispy tofu to the pan, tossing to coat it in the chili sauce for about 2 minutes.
  8. Garnish with chopped spring onions and sesame seeds before serving.
