- Firm tofu - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
- Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons (for frying)
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Brown sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Spring onions - 2 stalks, chopped
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Fresh cilantro - for garnish
Steps
- Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
- In a bowl, toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
- Once the oil is hot, carefully add the tofu cubes and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 8-10 minutes. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed, and sauté the minced garlic and grated ginger for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the red chili flakes, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar, stirring to combine all the ingredients.
- Return the crispy tofu to the pan and toss well to coat in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.
- Drizzle the sesame oil over the tofu and mix in chopped spring onions.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh cilantro.
