Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 300 grams
  • Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 4 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Red bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Black bean sauce - 4 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Sugar - 1 teaspoon

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into 1-inch cubes.
  2. In a bowl, coat the tofu cubes with cornstarch, ensuring they are evenly covered.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the tofu cubes to the skillet and fry until golden and crispy on all sides, about 6-8 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil, garlic, and ginger. Sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  6. Add the red bell pepper and green onion, stir-frying for another 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
  7. Reduce the heat to medium, then add the black bean sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and sugar. Stir well to combine.
  8. Return the crispy tofu to the skillet and toss to coat it in the sauce. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with extra green onions if desired.
