Ingredients

  • Taro root - 200 grams
  • Rice flour - 100 grams
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onion - 2 tablespoons, finely chopped
  • Water - 120 milliliters
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. Peel and chop the taro root into small cubes and steam them for about 20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  2. In a mixing bowl, mash the steamed taro until smooth and let it cool slightly.
  3. Add rice flour, cornstarch, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and chopped green onion to the mashed taro. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Divide the dough into small balls (about 30 grams each) and flatten them into discs.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat. Test the oil by dropping a small piece of dough; it should sizzle immediately.
  6. Fry the taro discs in batches for about 3-4 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the crispy puffs from the oil and drain them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
