Ingredients

  • Taro root - 300 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 60 grams
  • Cornstarch - 30 grams
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Water - 100 ml

Steps

  1. Peel and cube the taro root, then steam it for about 20 minutes or until tender.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mash the steamed taro until smooth.
  3. Add the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, chopped green onions, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and water to the mashed taro. Mix until a thick batter forms.
  4. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a flat, round cake.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully place the taro cakes in the pan.
  6. Fry the cakes for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Remove the cakes from the pan and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot with soy sauce or chili oil for dipping.
