Ingredients

  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Honey - 1 teaspoon (5g)
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon (5g)
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon (5g)
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (2g)
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (5ml)
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper to make the marinade.
  2. Place the chicken thighs in the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better flavor.
  3. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
  5. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, and place skin-side down in the skillet. Sear for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is golden brown and crispy.
  6. Flip the chicken over and drizzle sesame oil on top. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F).
  7. Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
