Ingredients
- Chicken thighs - 2 pieces (about 400g)
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons (30ml)
- Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
- Honey - 1 teaspoon (5g)
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon (5g)
- Salt - 1 teaspoon (5g)
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon (2g)
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon (5ml)
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (15ml)
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
Steps
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper to make the marinade.
- Place the chicken thighs in the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for better flavor.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
- Heat the vegetable oil in an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat until hot.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess marinade to drip off, and place skin-side down in the skillet. Sear for about 5-7 minutes until the skin is golden brown and crispy.
- Flip the chicken over and drizzle sesame oil on top. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F).
- Remove from the oven and let the chicken rest for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
