Ingredients
- Squid (cleaned and sliced) - 300 grams
- Cornstarch - 100 grams
- All-purpose flour - 50 grams
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sea salt - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 150 ml
- Vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml
- Chili flakes (optional) - 1/2 teaspoon
- Lemon wedges (for serving) - 2 wedges
Steps
- Begin by cleaning the squid, removing the skin and innards, then slice the squid bodies into rings and the tentacles into bite-sized pieces.
- In a mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, all-purpose flour, garlic powder, black pepper, sea salt, and chili flakes (if using). Mix well.
- Gradually add water to the dry ingredients, stirring until you achieve a smooth batter consistency.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or wok over medium-high heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
- Dip the squid pieces into the batter, allowing excess to drip off, then carefully place them in the hot oil in small batches.
- Fry the squid for about 2-3 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove them with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Once all the squid is cooked, sprinkle additional sea salt to taste and serve immediately with lemon wedges on the side.
