Ingredients
- Prawns (peeled and deveined) - 200 grams
- Cornstarch - 50 grams
- All-purpose flour - 50 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Garlic (minced) - 1 clove
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Spring onions (finely chopped) - 2 stalks
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil (for frying) - 500 ml
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine the prawns, garlic, ginger, spring onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let it marinate for 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, and egg until a smooth batter forms.
- Add the marinated prawn mixture to the batter and mix until the prawns are well coated.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat. To test if the oil is ready, drop a small amount of batter into the oil; it should sizzle and rise to the surface.
- Using a spoon or your hands, form small balls (about 2 cm in diameter) from the prawn mixture and carefully drop them into the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry the prawn balls for about 4-5 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning as needed for even cooking.
- Once cooked, remove the prawn balls from the oil and drain on paper towels to remove excess oil. Serve hot with your choice of dipping sauce.
