Ingredients

  • Portobello mushrooms - 2 large
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • All-purpose flour - 50 grams
  • Panko breadcrumbs - 100 grams
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Ginger powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying
  • Burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 2
  • Sliced cucumber - 100 grams
  • Sriracha sauce - to taste
  • Mayonnaise - 2 tablespoons

Steps

  1. Clean the Portobello mushrooms and remove the stems. Marinate them in a mixture of soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, ginger powder, salt, and black pepper for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Set up a breading station with three shallow dishes: one with cornstarch, another with all-purpose flour, and the last with Panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Dredge each marinated mushroom first in cornstarch, then dip in flour, and finally coat with Panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, carefully add the breaded mushrooms and fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown and crispy.
  5. While the mushrooms are frying, toast the burger buns in a separate pan until lightly golden.
  6. Assemble the burgers by placing a lettuce leaf on the bottom half of each bun, followed by the crispy mushroom patty, sliced cucumber, a drizzle of Sriracha sauce, and a tablespoon of mayonnaise. Top with the other half of the bun.
  7. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.
