  • Lotus root - 200 grams

  • Chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Wash the lotus root thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt.
  2. Peel the lotus root using a vegetable peeler and slice it thinly (about 2-3 mm thick).
  3. Soak the lotus root slices in a bowl of cold water for 10 minutes to prevent browning and remove excess starch.
  4. Drain the slices and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove moisture.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or wok over medium-high heat until hot (around 180°C or 350°F).
  6. Carefully add a few lotus root slices to the hot oil, making sure not to overcrowd the pan.
  7. Fry the slices for 3-4 minutes or until they turn golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  8. Remove the chips using a slotted spoon and drain them on paper towels to absorb excess oil.
  9. While the chips are still warm, sprinkle them with salt, ground black pepper, chili powder, and garlic powder to taste.
