Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Honey or agave syrup - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, grated - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 50 grams
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) - 1 cup
  • Skewers - 4 (wooden or metal)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess water, then cut it into 2 cm cubes.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger to create the marinade.
  3. Add the cubed tofu to the marinade, gently tossing to coat. Allow it to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  4. After marinating, skewer the tofu cubes onto the skewers, about 4-5 pieces per skewer.
  5. Place cornstarch in a shallow dish and roll each skewer in the cornstarch to coat evenly.
  6. In a frying pan or wok, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until hot.
  7. Carefully add the tofu skewers to the hot oil, cooking for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy.
  8. Remove the skewers from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
  9. Serve hot, optionally garnished with chopped scallions or sesame seeds.
