Ingredients

  • Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Egg - 1 large
  • Water - 100 ml
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, black pepper, five-spice powder, and garlic powder.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the egg with water until well combined.
  3. Cut the chicken thighs into bite-sized pieces and marinate them in the egg mixture for about 10 minutes.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until it reaches 180°C (350°F).
  5. Coat the marinated chicken pieces in the flour mixture, ensuring they are evenly covered.
  6. Carefully place the coated chicken pieces into the hot oil, frying them in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Fry the chicken for about 6-8 minutes or until golden brown and crispy, turning them halfway through.
  8. Remove the fried chicken from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
