Ingredients

  • Duck wings - 500 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 3 tablespoons
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil - for frying

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, rice vinegar, salt, and black pepper to create a marinade.
  2. Add the duck wings to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. After marinating, remove the duck wings from the refrigerator and pat them dry with paper towels.
  4. In a shallow dish, spread cornstarch evenly. Dredge each duck wing in cornstarch, shaking off any excess.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium-high heat until hot (about 180°C or 350°F).
  6. Carefully add the coated duck wings to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding. Fry for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the wings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions or sesame seeds if desired.
