- Cornstarch - 30 grams
- Green onions (finely chopped) - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
- Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Five-spice powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil (for frying) - 250 ml
Steps
- In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
- Add cornstarch, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed chickpeas. Mix until well combined.
- Shape the mixture into small balls, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until hot.
- Carefully add the chickpea balls to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the balls using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
- Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
