Ingredients

  • Chickpeas (cooked and drained) - 240 grams
  • Cornstarch - 30 grams
  • Green onions (finely chopped) - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Ginger (grated) - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Five-spice powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Vegetable oil (for frying) - 250 ml

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, mash the cooked chickpeas until mostly smooth, leaving some texture.
  2. Add cornstarch, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, five-spice powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed chickpeas. Mix until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small balls, about 2.5 cm in diameter.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat until hot.
  5. Carefully add the chickpea balls to the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry until golden brown and crispy, about 4-5 minutes.
  6. Remove the balls using a slotted spoon and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.
  7. Serve warm with your favorite dipping sauce.
