Ingredients
- Chicken breast - 300 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ginger powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 1/4 cup
- Egg - 1 large, beaten
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Vegetable oil - for frying
- Bao buns - 2 pieces
- Cucumber - 1/2, thinly sliced
- Cilantro - a handful, chopped
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Sriracha - 1 teaspoon (optional)
Steps
- Start by cutting the chicken breast into thin slices and marinating with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and ginger powder for at least 15 minutes.
- Set up a breading station: place the cornstarch in one bowl, the beaten egg in another, and the panko breadcrumbs in a third.
- Coat each chicken slice first in cornstarch, then dip it into the egg, and finally coat it with panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Once hot, fry the chicken slices for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- While the chicken is cooking, steam the bao buns according to package instructions until warm and fluffy.
- To assemble, place a crispy chicken slice in each bao bun, top with cucumber slices and chopped cilantro. Drizzle with soy sauce and sriracha if desired.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your crispy chicken bao!
