Ingredients

  • Basmati rice - 150 grams
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Fresh coriander leaves - 30 grams, chopped
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish

Steps

  1. Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for 15 minutes.
  2. In a medium saucepan, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  3. Drain the soaked rice and add it to the saucepan, stirring gently to coat the rice with the oil and spices.
  4. Add 300 ml of water, soy sauce, salt, and black pepper to the pan, and bring to a boil.
  5. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pan, and let it simmer for 15 minutes or until the rice is cooked and water is absorbed.
  6. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork, then stir in the chopped fresh coriander.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with chopped green onions.
