Ingredients

  • Glutinous rice - 150 grams
  • Coconut milk - 200 milliliters
  • Water - 100 milliliters
  • Sugar - 30 grams
  • Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Sesame seeds (optional) - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh mango slices (for serving) - 1 small mango

Steps

  1. Rinse the glutinous rice under cold water until the water runs clear, then soak it in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer lined with cheesecloth or parchment paper.
  3. In a small pot, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt, and heat over low until the sugar dissolves. Do not let it boil.
  4. Add the water to the pot and mix well, then pour half of the coconut mixture over the soaked rice in the steamer.
  5. Cover the steamer and steam the rice for about 25-30 minutes until it is fully cooked and sticky.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, remove it from the steamer and transfer it to a serving bowl.
  7. Pour the remaining coconut mixture over the warm rice, and gently mix to combine.
  8. Serve warm, garnished with sesame seeds and fresh mango slices on the side.
