Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
  • Ground black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green onions - 2, chopped
  • Red bell pepper - 1, sliced
  • Cucumber - 1/2, sliced
  • Whole wheat burger buns - 2
  • Lettuce leaves - 4
  • Chili sauce - 1 tablespoon (optional)

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into thick slices.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and ground black pepper to create the marinade.
  3. Add the tofu slices to the marinade and let them sit for at least 10 minutes.
  4. Preheat a grill or a grill pan over medium heat.
  5. Skewer the marinated tofu slices along with the sliced red bell pepper and chopped green onions.
  6. Grill the skewers for about 4-5 minutes on each side, until the tofu is golden brown and slightly charred.
  7. While the skewers are grilling, toast the whole wheat burger buns on the grill for 1-2 minutes, until lightly crispy.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing lettuce leaves on the bottom half of the bun, followed by the grilled tofu skewers, cucumber slices, and a drizzle of chili sauce if desired.
  9. Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately.
