Ingredients

  • Chinese broccoli (Gai Lan) - 300 grams
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic (minced) - 2 cloves
  • Oyster sauce (vegetarian) - 3 tablespoons
  • Soy sauce - 1 teaspoon
  • Water - 50 milliliters
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Toasted sesame seeds - 1 teaspoon (for garnish)

Steps

  1. Wash the Chinese broccoli thoroughly and trim the ends of the stems.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil and blanch the Chinese broccoli for about 2 minutes until bright green and tender-crisp.
  3. Remove the Chinese broccoli from the boiling water and immediately plunge it into a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat and add the minced garlic, sautéing for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add the blanched Chinese broccoli to the skillet, stirring to coat with the garlic oil.
