Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 400 grams
  • Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
  • Fresh ginger - 1 inch, grated
  • Red chili flakes - 1 teaspoon (adjust to taste)
  • Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Bell pepper - 1 medium, sliced
  • Green onion - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Fresh cilantro - for garnish
  • Lime - 1, cut into wedges

Steps

  1. Press the tofu for 15 minutes to remove excess moisture, then cut it into shrimp-like pieces.
  2. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, grated ginger, and red chili flakes to create the marinade.
  3. Add the tofu pieces to the marinade and let them soak for at least 10 minutes.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss the marinated tofu pieces in cornstarch until well coated.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the coated tofu and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Remove the tofu from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add sliced bell pepper and sauté for 2-3 minutes until slightly tender.
  7. Return the tofu to the skillet, toss everything together, and cook for an additional 2 minutes to heat through.
  8. Garnish with chopped green onions and cilantro. Serve with lime wedges on the side.
