Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Ground chicken - 200 grams
  • Green onions, finely chopped - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic, minced - 1 clove
  • Ginger, minced - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Carrot, grated - 1 small
  • Coriander leaves, chopped - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and knead until smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.
  3. In another bowl, mix ground chicken, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, grated carrot, and coriander leaves until well combined.
  4. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a small circle about 10 cm in diameter.
  5. Place a tablespoon of the chicken mixture in the center of each circle. Fold the edges over the filling and pinch to seal tightly, forming a bun.
  6. Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper and let them rest for 20 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Chicken Baozi.
