Ingredients

  • Chicken thighs - 400 grams
  • Soy sauce - 30 ml
  • Honey - 15 grams
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
  • Five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Chili flakes - 1/2 teaspoon (optional)
  • Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)

Steps

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine soy sauce, honey, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, five-spice powder, black pepper, and chili flakes to create the marinade.
  2. Add the chicken thighs to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for more flavor.
  3. Prepare your charcoal grill and allow the coals to reach a medium heat.
  4. Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing any excess marinade to drip off, and place the chicken thighs on the grill.
  5. Grill the chicken for about 6-8 minutes on each side, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F) and the chicken is nicely charred.
  6. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  7. Garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
