- Hoisin sauce - 30 ml
- Honey - 30 grams
- Five-spice powder - 5 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Burger buns - 2 units
- Cucumber - 100 grams, sliced
- Fresh cilantro - 10 grams, for garnish
- Mayonnaise - 30 grams (optional)
Steps
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, minced garlic, grated ginger, and sesame oil to create the marinade.
- Cut the pork shoulder into thick strips and marinate in the mixture for at least 30 minutes, or overnight in the refrigerator for enhanced flavor.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Place the marinated pork on a baking tray lined with foil and bake for 25-30 minutes, turning halfway, until caramelized and cooked through.
- While the pork is baking, prepare the burger buns by toasting them lightly in a pan or oven.
- Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it thinly.
- To assemble the burgers, place a generous amount of sliced char siu on the bottom half of each bun, add cucumber slices, and top with cilantro.
- If desired, spread mayonnaise on the top half of the bun before closing the burger.
- Serve immediately and enjoy your Cantonese Char Siu Burger!
