Ingredients
- Pork shoulder - 300 grams
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Hoisin sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Honey - 1 tablespoon
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 100 milliliters
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Instant yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Milk - 120 milliliters
- Egg - 1, beaten (for egg wash)
Steps
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, and water to create the marinade.
- Cut the pork shoulder into strips and marinate for at least 30 minutes, preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
- In another bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Gradually add warm milk and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until it doubles in size.
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F). Place marinated pork on a baking tray and roast for 25-30 minutes, basting occasionally with marinade, until cooked through and caramelized.
- Once the dough has risen, divide it into 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat circle.
- Cut the roasted pork into small pieces and place a spoonful on each dough circle, folding the edges to enclose the filling.
- Place the buns on a steamer tray lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise for an additional 15 minutes.
- Steam the buns for about 15 minutes until fluffy.
- Brush the tops with beaten egg and serve warm.
