Ingredients
- Pork shoulder - 400 grams
- Soy sauce - 30 ml
- Hoisin sauce - 30 ml
- Honey - 20 grams
- Five-spice powder - 5 grams
- Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
- Ginger, minced - 1 teaspoon
- Red food coloring (optional) - a few drops
- Rice wine - 15 ml
- Sesame oil - 5 ml
Steps
- Cut the pork shoulder into long strips, about 5 cm wide.
- In a bowl, combine soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, five-spice powder, minced garlic, minced ginger, rice wine, and sesame oil. Add red food coloring if desired.
- Marinate the pork strips in the sauce mixture for at least 1 hour, or preferably overnight in the refrigerator.
- Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F).
- Place the marinated pork strips on a wire rack over a baking tray to catch drippings.
- Bake the pork in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, basting with the marinade every 10 minutes.
- After 30 minutes, turn on the broiler and cook for an additional 5-10 minutes for a charred finish, keeping a close eye to prevent burning.
- Remove from the oven and let the pork rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm, optionally with steamed rice or in a bun.
