- Onion - 1 medium, sliced
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Oyster sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Rice wine - 2 tablespoons
- Beef broth - 500 ml
- Star anise - 2 pieces
- Bay leaf - 1
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - to taste
- Black pepper - to taste
Steps
- Cut the beef brisket into 2-inch cubes and season with salt and black pepper.
- In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add minced ginger and garlic, sauté until fragrant.
- Add sliced onion and continue to sauté until the onion is translucent.
- Increase the heat to high and add the beef brisket cubes, browning the meat on all sides.
- Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and rice wine, stirring to coat the beef.
- Add the beef broth, star anise, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
- Cover and simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the brisket is tender, stirring occasionally.
- Once tender, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper if necessary.
- Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
