Ingredients

  • Beef brisket - 400 grams
  • Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 medium, sliced
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Rice wine - 2 tablespoons
  • Beef broth - 500 ml
  • Star anise - 2 pieces
  • Bay leaf - 1
  • Spring onions - 2, chopped
  • Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Cut the beef brisket into 2-inch cubes and season with salt and black pepper.
  2. In a large pot, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add minced ginger and garlic, sauté until fragrant.
  3. Add sliced onion and continue to sauté until the onion is translucent.
  4. Increase the heat to high and add the beef brisket cubes, browning the meat on all sides.
  5. Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and rice wine, stirring to coat the beef.
  6. Add the beef broth, star anise, and bay leaf to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low.
  7. Cover and simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the brisket is tender, stirring occasionally.
  8. Once tender, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and black pepper if necessary.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with chopped spring onions.
