Ingredients

  • All-purpose flour - 250 grams
  • Active dry yeast - 5 grams
  • Sugar - 10 grams
  • Warm water - 150 ml
  • Salt - 5 grams
  • Ground pork - 200 grams
  • Cabbage, finely chopped - 100 grams
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, minced - 1 teaspoon
  • Soy sauce - 15 ml
  • Sesame oil - 10 ml
  • Spring onions, chopped - 2
  • Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Egg, beaten (for egg wash) - 1

Steps

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture.
  3. Mix until a dough forms. Knead on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour in a warm place.
  4. While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a skillet, heat a bit of oil over medium heat and sauté the garlic and ginger for 1 minute.
  5. Add the ground pork, breaking it apart, and cook until browned. Stir in the chopped cabbage, soy sauce, sesame oil, spring onions, and black pepper. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cabbage is wilted. Remove from heat and let cool.
  6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle about 10 cm in diameter.
  7. Place a spoonful of the pork and cabbage filling in the center of each circle. Gather the edges and pinch them together to seal the bun.
  8. Place the buns on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg.
  9. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
