Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 200g
- Active dry yeast - 5g
- Sugar - 10g
- Warm water - 120ml
- Ground pork - 150g
- Cabbage, finely chopped - 100g
- Green onions, chopped - 2 stalks
- Soy sauce - 15ml
- Sesame oil - 5ml
- Garlic, minced - 1 clove
- Ginger, minced - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 2g
- Pepper - 1g
- Vegetable oil - 5ml for frying
Steps
- In a bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the ground pork, chopped cabbage, green onions, soy sauce, sesame oil, minced garlic, minced ginger, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and then flatten into a round disc, about 10cm in diameter.
- Place a spoonful of the pork and cabbage filling in the center of each disc. Gather the edges of the dough and pinch to seal the filling inside, forming a bun.
- Place the buns on a piece of parchment paper and let them rest for an additional 10 minutes.
- In a steamer, bring water to a boil. Place the buns in the steamer, cover, and steam for 15 minutes until fluffy and cooked through.
- In a frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Lightly fry each bun for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown, if desired.
- Serve warm and enjoy your delicious Cabbage and Pork Bao!
