Ingredients

  • Firm tofu - 200 grams
  • Shiitake mushrooms - 100 grams, sliced
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Vegetable broth - 200 milliliters
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 2 tablespoons
  • Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. Press the tofu to remove excess moisture for about 15 minutes, then cut it into cubes.
  2. Heat sesame oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat, add the cubed tofu, and fry until golden brown on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove tofu and set aside.
  3. In the same pan, add minced garlic and ginger, sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the sliced shiitake mushrooms and cook for about 5 minutes until they are softened.
  5. Return the tofu to the pan and pour in the soy sauce and vegetable broth. Stir to combine.
  6. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch with water to create a slurry, then add this to the pan to thicken the sauce.
  7. Simmer the mixture on low heat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened.
  8. Season with salt and black pepper to taste, and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.
