Ingredients

  • Pork shoulder - 300 grams, cut into small cubes
  • Soy sauce - 60 ml
  • Rice wine - 30 ml
  • Sugar - 15 grams
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 10 grams, minced
  • Star anise - 1 whole
  • Water - 300 ml
  • Cooked jasmine rice - 200 grams
  • Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon

Steps

  1. In a large pot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  2. Add the cubed pork shoulder to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, and star anise. Mix well to coat the pork.
  4. Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes until the pork is tender.
  5. While the pork is cooking, prepare the jasmine rice according to package instructions.
  6. Once the pork is tender, remove the star anise and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  7. To serve, place a portion of cooked jasmine rice in a bowl, top with the braised pork, and garnish with chopped green onions.
