- Pork shoulder - 300 grams, cut into small cubes
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Rice wine - 30 ml
- Sugar - 15 grams
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 10 grams, minced
- Star anise - 1 whole
- Water - 300 ml
- Cooked jasmine rice - 200 grams
- Green onions - 2, chopped for garnish
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
Steps
- In a large pot, heat the sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger, and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add the cubed pork shoulder to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, and star anise. Mix well to coat the pork.
- Pour in the water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes until the pork is tender.
- While the pork is cooking, prepare the jasmine rice according to package instructions.
- Once the pork is tender, remove the star anise and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- To serve, place a portion of cooked jasmine rice in a bowl, top with the braised pork, and garnish with chopped green onions.
