- Brown sugar - 30 grams
- Ginger - 10 grams, sliced
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Star anise - 2 pieces
- Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
- Water - 300 ml
- Spring onions - 2, chopped
- Sesame oil - 10 ml
- Vegetable oil - 10 ml
- Salt - to taste
Steps
- Heat vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat and add the minced garlic and sliced ginger. Sauté until fragrant.
- Add the pork ribs to the pot and sear on all sides until browned.
- Pour in the soy sauce, rice wine, and add the brown sugar, star anise, and cinnamon stick. Stir to combine.
- Add water to the pot, ensuring the ribs are mostly submerged. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the ribs are tender.
- Uncover the pot, increase the heat to medium, and let the sauce reduce for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Once the sauce thickens, adjust seasoning with salt if needed, and drizzle with sesame oil.
- Serve the braised pork ribs garnished with chopped spring onions.
