Ingredients
- All-purpose flour - 250 grams
- Active dry yeast - 5 grams
- Sugar - 10 grams
- Warm water - 150 ml
- Salt - 5 grams
- Ground halal pork - 200 grams
- Soy sauce - 15 ml
- Oyster sauce - 10 ml
- Sesame oil - 5 ml
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, minced
- Spring onions - 2, finely chopped
- Vegetable oil - 10 ml
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Chinese five-spice powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Steps
- In a bowl, mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and knead until a smooth dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add vegetable oil. Sauté garlic and ginger until fragrant, then add ground pork, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, and Chinese five-spice powder. Cook until pork is browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in chopped spring onions and remove from heat. Allow filling to cool slightly.
- Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a ball and flatten it into a circle.
- Place a spoonful of the pork filling in the center of each dough circle. Gather the edges together and pinch to seal the bun.
- Place the buns on a steaming tray lined with parchment paper. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
- Prepare a steamer and bring water to a boil. Steam the buns for 15-20 minutes until fluffy and cooked through.
- Serve warm, enjoying the soft texture and savory filling.
