Ingredients
- Octopus - 500 grams, cleaned
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Rice wine - 30 ml
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Star anise - 1 piece
- Green onions - 2 stalks, chopped (for garnish)
- Cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped (for garnish)
- Water - 500 ml
Steps
- In a large pot, bring 500 ml of water to a boil. Add the cleaned octopus and simmer for about 30 minutes until tender. Drain and set aside.
- In the same pot, heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger, stirring until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, rice wine, sugar, and star anise. Mix well to combine.
- Return the octopus to the pot and add enough water to cover the octopus. Bring to a simmer, then cover and cook on low heat for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid and increase the heat to reduce the sauce for an additional 10-15 minutes until slightly thickened.
- Serve the braised octopus hot, garnished with chopped green onions and cilantro.
