Ingredients

  • White fish fillets (e.g., cod or tilapia) - 300 grams
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic, minced - 3 cloves
  • Ginger, sliced - 1 inch piece
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Rice vinegar - 2 tablespoons
  • Sugar - 1 tablespoon
  • Water - 200 ml
  • Spring onions, chopped - 2 stalks
  • Carrot, julienned - 1 medium
  • Cucumber, julienned - 1 small
  • Radish, sliced thin - 1 small
  • Sesame oil - 1 teaspoon
  • Salt - to taste
  • Black pepper - to taste

Steps

  1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and water to create a marinade. Add the fish fillets and let them marinate for 15 minutes.
  2. While the fish marinates, prepare the pickled vegetables. In a separate bowl, mix the julienned carrot, cucumber, radish, sesame oil, salt, and black pepper. Set aside for the flavors to meld.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sliced ginger, sautéing until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Carefully place the marinated fish fillets into the pan. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are opaque and cooked through.
  5. Once the fish is cooked, pour the remaining marinade over the fish and let it simmer for another 2 minutes.
  6. Remove the pan from heat and serve the braised fish on a plate, topped with the pickled vegetables and chopped spring onions.
