- Soy sauce - 60 ml
- Shaoxing wine - 30 ml
- Beef broth - 500 ml
- Brown sugar - 1 tablespoon (15 grams)
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, minced
- Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
- Star anise - 2 pieces
- Cinnamon stick - 1 piece
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Noodles (egg or wheat) - 200 grams
- Vegetable oil - 1 tablespoon (15 ml)
- Salt - to taste
- Pepper - to taste
Steps
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the minced ginger and garlic, sautéing until fragrant.
- Add the beef cubes to the pot and brown them on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
- Pour in the soy sauce and Shaoxing wine, stirring to coat the beef.
- Add the beef broth, brown sugar, star anise, and cinnamon stick to the pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Cover the pot and let it simmer for about 1.5 hours, or until the beef is tender, stirring occasionally.
- While the beef is braising, cook the noodles according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Once the beef is tender, taste the broth and season with salt and pepper as needed.
- To serve, place a portion of noodles in a bowl, ladle the braised beef and broth over the noodles, and garnish with chopped green onions.
